“GOLFING FOR OTHERS”  A WINNER

SUNSHINE ON A CLOUDY DAY

The skies may have been cloudy,  but there was sunshine in the hearts of all those who participated in the seventh annual golf tournament for the Caswell Parish on October 2.  The proceeds from the tournament ($12,517) will directly benefit Caswell’s most vulnerable citizens.

The day began early with registration and breakfast for 79 golfers.  Business was brisk as golfers paid golfing fees, and purchased mulligans, strings for putts,  raffle tickets for a patio heater and half-the pot chances.  Jacob Dameron won half the $1,000 pot, and Bill Woods won the patio heater.  All golfers enjoyed a nice selection of door prizes.

Longest drive honors went to Jacob Dameron. Closest-to-the-pin winners for the four par three holes were Billly Hodges, Robert Bridgforth, Tony Smith, and Artie Sylvester.

What In the World Does Caswell Parish Do??

Those who volunteer at the Caswell Parish are sometimes surprised at the number of Caswell citizens who are not aware of the services the Parish provides.
Following is a short description of all the services available to Caswell county residents.

We feed hungry families.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, except on designated holidays, the food pantry is open from 10:00 to 3:00 to any family in need of an emergency food supplement. Those in need of food are asked to call the Parish for an appointment.

We provide utility assistance.

….to families in danger of having their electrical service terminated for lack of payment or to those who have no means to purchase wood, oil, or propane for heating.  This assistance is supported by a grant from The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region, by some funds from Duke Energy, and private donations.

We provide other special services to children.

Thanks to a grant from the Womack Foundation and donations from generous supporters, the Parish provides Christmas gifts to children whose parents are unable to do so.  In addition, the Parish purchases shoes for school children whose parents lack the financial means to do so upon recommendation of the teacher or guidance counselor. Santa’s Helpers are already busy collecting toys and clothing!

Our Thrift Store Offers Good Quality Clothing and Household Goods at Low Prices

We feed hungry school children.

Currently there are 234 students enrolled in the backpack program that provides a weekend food supplement for food insecure children.  This represents a huge increase over prior years, thanks to the hard work of guidance counselors.  In September five volunteers offloaded 132 cases of backpack food, each containing 8 packages, and delivered them to the elementary schools. This will provide enough food for approximately four to five weeks, after which time an order will be placed for more food. (Pictured left to right: Rick Briggs, Phil Barfield, Scott Coats, Lan Clark and Johnny Lewis……..faithful backpack volunteers!)

We Are BUSY People!

On any given day, the phone is ringing as we walk in the door.  Someone is about to have their electrical service disconnected.  Someone needs an appointment to get food.

Meanwhile, volunteers are busily stocking the pantry and then filling food boxes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Daily, various volunteers pick up surplus food from Food Lion.  Once a week other volunteers bring their pickup trucks to the FoodLion Parking Lot, load the food shipment, and stock the pantry shelves.  NEVER A DULL MOMENT AT CASWELL PARISH!

FINALLY!!!  THE PARISH WALK-IN COOLER IS NOW IN USE!

After months of planning, ordering materials, and installation, the much needed walk-in cooler is  now in use. This container will make possible the preservation of perishable fruits and vegetables.  The Parish is deeply grateful to  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for its generous donation that made this cooler possible.

Bobby Brewer loads fresh produce into the walk-in cooler.

Our Generous Food Donors

Third Quarter Donors

Our mission to feed the hungry could not be carried out without the generous support of the churches,  organizations,  and individuals in Caswell County who donate food each month. We are grateful for the generous support during the months of July, August, and September 2024.

CCATS Provides Valuable Community Service

The Caswell Parish is deeply grateful to Caswell  County Area Transportation Service for delivering food to shut-ins and those with no transportation to come to the Parish to pick up an emergency food box.  Caswell County is very fortunate to have such a service!

and we hope to see you again in the coming year. This event is the primary fund raiser for the Parish.
The proceeds provide support for the Parish ministries.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me,I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him,‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
